Find a Business that suits Your Personality
Starting a business takes a good idea and some small loan options. However not every great idea is going to be a perfect fit for you. Likewise, following your passion alone is not going to be the magic formula for success. A good business venture is one with great potential that aligns with your talents and passion. Discovering what the perfect match is requires you know a lot about your personal strengths and weaknesses.
Your Personal Work Experience
Take a look back at your work career and find the jobs that you connected with best. Odds are you excelled in them, too, since doing what you love becomes a passion, not work. Brainstorm businesses that can make use of the talents and knowledge that you’ve accumulated over years of working other jobs. You may find that you hated being a car salesman, but you had a good knack for closing deals or persuading people to buy. This would point to a business where you use your customer service skills to build sales.
Your Likes and Dislikes
Next, take a look at what you do in your spare time when money is not the motivator. Many a hobbyist has found a lucrative business model in their spare time. However, before you invest in junk sculptures or jewelry making, make sure you have the experience to sell it online. Also, do a little market research to determine whether there is a market for your business idea or whether you are better off trying something different. It is much better to spend a little money and a little time to understand how you hope to make money later than it is to spend lots of money and time doing it the trial and error way. If you are still not sure, give it a trial run on a limited basis and figure out from that whether it is a good fit and a viable business idea.
